Dive bars. The phrase may conjure a certain, shall we say, inelegant atmosphere. But in many areas, these neighborhood bars are a vital piece of the social fabric. Veteran writer Anthony Head and internationally recognized photographer Kirk Weddle chronicled 12 such establishments in their 2022 book Texas Dives: Enduring Neighborhood Bars of the Lone Star State, and they'll share some of their findings at the Allen Public Library on March 30 at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the program is free, and a live webcast can be accessed at actv.
